VIC WAS IN TOWN TONIGHT! he still is, technically. he's sleeping in my bed. i told him i was going to sleep with my mom, but really i'm crashing on the couch. he's driving 12 hours tomorrow, i figured he deserved a good bed.

he's such a beautiful person. it makes me want to pinch his nose and kiss his cheeks! he's so good to talk to. no small talk bullshit. real stuff. and interesting stuff. ideas and plans and fascinations and interests. i miss having people like that nearby. i make lots of plans, and sometimes life gets in the way of making them happen. but this year, i WILL go to new jersey for thanksgiving. and i WILL get to Los Angeles this summer (Vic told me to come crash for a bit), and i WILL do one other short trip. to wherever someone will have me.

i'm exhausted of having things not work out. i have to MAKE them happen, don't you think? find a way. or else i will never ever see or do what i want to do!

and i miss people. real people. and especially you people. those of you who read this and are friends from new jersey. why can't i seem to find that again? not in florida, not here.

Vic and i were talking about the cafe when he was on his way through the first time, about how that was a small piece of perfection. it was the perfect mix of people and the perfect time in life. we shared so much together. and clicked so well. i loved those night we stayed up the entire night, drinking whiskey or wine and smoking cigarettes in the Goat's basement after Cryan's or Gaslight closed. it was so beautiful. those conversations. i have forgotten some of what was said, but i remember how it felt. to feel so connected to a group of people. to feel so loved by friends. and understood. and my friends from Seton Hall, it was the same way. like anything was up for discussion. and we could be loud or quiet or drunk or sober and it didn't matter. and we loved so many of the same kinds of things. we could be unapologetically passionate. and that's hard to do i'm finding. and that makes me so sad. i can't be passionate about something small or simple without someone looking at me like i'm insane. but i'm not. i remember how it felt to be there, with you guys, and i know it's not insane to feel that strongly. and to want to share it with someone else.

and to want to hug people and kiss them because you love them. nothing sexual. just love. the kind that is there no matter how much time passes. no matter what has happened in the time between. where are you guys? i want you all back.

I'M AWESOME... [24 Jul 2009|11:44pm]
i was baking cookies to send to my dad who is currently deployed in the middle east for a year. well, when i went to put away the mixing bowl, i slipped and fell... kind of, into, the pantry. the bowl hit the shelf edge and broke into a bunch of pieces, one of which managed to have a go at my wrist. awesome. it didn't even hurt at first. i looked down right away and i could see into my wrist. before it started bleeding i could see the white stuff that covers my vein, and the blue underneath it. a hair's breadth. truly. it bled a lot. and hurt like a bitch. we thought i needed stitches, but i insisted that we just keep pressure a bit longer and sure enough, it slowed down enough to bandage. i'm a good clotter. helpful for those of us who tend to fall onto and into things.

we could only fit one butterfly bandage without attaching it to other biggish cuts. bah.

but look how cute my dog is!! this is nice to look at, right?

she lays her head on the arm of her little dog couch. i always give her big hugs and she always puts her head on my knee.

issue #3 [17 Apr 2009|09:16am]
i know i was kind of (okay, a lot of) all over the place with the second issue of TheHoneybee & Seadog, but i want to do another issue right away. this one (#2) is all printed up, so tonight i can do the folding and stapling, and start getting packages together to mail out on saturday.

for #3, i want to do the Apocalypse theme. i'm pumped for it. and everything is all planned out- the visual elements, the recipe (typed and everything, w/a picture), the top ten, the poll...

so if you still want to be a part of it (and if you don't, i understand), please write me something Apocalypse-themed. doesn't have to be literally, the-world-is-ending-where-are-my-steel-toed-boots. but just... the big endings of big things. or small things. either way it's about ending times. relationships ending, prophecies, visions, fears, the future you see, what you think will bring us down in the end, and so on and so forth. i'm excited. so much so that i don't need coffee(that much)!
*** i forgot ***
the deadline for this one will be relatively short! may 15th at the latest! i have to be able to sneakily use my school's copier for free!
let me know if you want to contribute or not so i know what i'm doing, please and thank you :]

So, even if you don't want to write anything, can i ask at least an answer to the following topics:

- your favorite futuristic/dystopic/apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic books

- what song do you want to be listening to when the world ends?

the first is the top ten, and the second is just a poll.

and i want to do this fast because i am hoping to include an interview (w/pics and links) with J about his new album coming out on May 23rd.

go listen to it: he's an old man character. it's so damn good.

help! [09 Mar 2009|10:02am]
can anyone think of a movie that i can show my sociology class? i need something that captures the feel of the 90's in general, or even one specific aspect of 90s american culture. even if you think it is rated R, suggest anyway! i'm bombing on this for some reason.

what to aim for [23 Jan 2009|07:22pm]
we were having a discussion earlier about this book i was poking through at the library- something to the effect of "100 most influential people who never lived"- about influential characters from literature, film, legend, myth, etc.

one of my most loved characters of all time was right there on the list- Atticus Finch. to me, aside from my granddad of course, he is truly the ideal man. he is strong and brave, in the best and most real ways. he is honest, brave, and stands up for what is right, against opposition, without being self-righteous. he is kind and caring. he is a gentle and loving, but firm father. he is intelligent and values education. he believes in equality. he is passionate and a fighter, but isn't loud and abrasive. if i were a man, i would see this character as a model of sorts. and as a woman i do try to my hardest to cultivate some of these qualities, but still, and this may sound a bit vague... there are just aspects of this character that strike me as distinctly male, that i would never be or have.

and so what i was trying to think of is this- are there are female characters in lit., film, legend, etc. that can be seen as an ideal in this way? is the feminine ideal still so in flux?
and how different would it really look from that description of Atticus Finch? of course she would be intelligent, strong, kind, passionate, etc... do those qualities somehow look different as expressed in women? are there qualities we would say the ideal woman would possess that a man would not? or vice versa?

things pop to mind... assorted katharine hepburn characters, maggie gyllenhaal as anna pascal in stranger than fiction, the paperbag princess, scout finch even... but nothing is really coming to me as solidly as the image of atticus finch. maybe he is just the human ideal. who knows.

so i'm asking you, do you have any characters that hold this place in your heart? or can you think of a female character that can be considered an ideal? or simply, what do you make of all this?

real quick [06 Nov 2008|12:59pm]
i'll make a real post later about real stuff, but for now i'm proud and want to put up my website.
it's been up since saturday, and i've sold one already, and have 10 people who love my shop, so it seems to be coming along pretty well.
just thought i'd post the link so you can see how it turned out: http://thehoneybee.etsy.com/

Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

an anniversary! [14 Jul 2008|08:47pm]
sean and i are one year married today :] it was just a really wonderful day. he made me breakfast in bed, with a toasted bagel, scrambled eggs with cheese and tomato and some fruit. he even went outside to cut a stem from the flowering sage! we lounged around and cuddled a bit, saw Hellboy II (eh.), went to the bookstore where he bought me the Shakespeare biography written by Anthony Burgess (?!?!) that i had been eye-balling, came home and cuddled some more, went out to dinner, wandered around world market where he bought me a giraffe pen that has little punching arms, and then we came back here and watched some homerun derby :] the rest of the night will be spent in except for the run to village inn for a slice of coconut cream pie! delicious!

here we are, a year ago:

m.i.a. [04 Jun 2008|08:52pm]
i've been absent, i know. too many things to begin to talk about in the tiny amount of time i have. there are health problems with me, good school things with sean, moving things, family things, running 4.5 miles now (?!?!?!), zine things, and so much more. but my head is a mess, and life feels like it's moving very quickly, and i have too much to do right now to organize my thoughts.

i hope all is well out there with you guys.

Christy, CONGRATULATIONS again! i'm very very happy for you!

"if i had a bookstore i'd make the mystery section really hard to find" [19 Apr 2008|09:54pm]
1. i love demetri martin. "i'm gonna buy a bunch of hermit crabs and make them live together. they'll say 'are those hermit crabs?', and i'll say 'not anymore...these are mingling crabs."

2. and here's something else. i didn't mention it before because i was afraid i wasn't going to stick with it this time, porque es el tema de mi vida. BUT, i've been running and doing yoga lately, and i've lost 13 pounds. 13!!! i'm pretty proud of myself. i'm really starting to like this whole running business. i'm not fast, by any means, but i like the way it feels to see myself progress in a concrete way. when i first started, i could only go for 30 minutes, and my goal was 2 miles in those 30 minutes. i usually ended up having to go until about 32-33 minutes to hit it. now, i do 3 miles, and i can do it in 40 minutes. (taking into account my little warm-up walk), i have knocked about 4 minutes off my mile and added a mile to my overall run. kick. ass. my aunt wants me to do a half-marathon with her in november.

3. sean and i have pretty much decided (95%) that we are moving to denton over the summer whether he gets accepted in the fall to UNT or not. the pay is good, about 43, it's close to my cousins, and it is close to a big city (Dallas) that has more going on. if he doesn't get accepted for the fall, he is going to apply again for the spring. it has the exact program he wants. pray, cross your fingers, throw a penny in a well for us if you would. we'd really appreciate it.

4. my seniors are done on may 15th. from then until the 24th? i will only have one class a day, speech. amazing!

5. here are some pictures from san francisco/the drive back south on PCH. it was wonderful. sean and i would really like to do that drive ourselves, but camp along the way instead of staying in hotels.

Read more...Collapse )

5. how's the writing coming?

the writing? [01 Apr 2008|01:06pm]
so are all those contributing to the honeybee & seadog cool with "identity" as the theme for this round? (apocalypse, next!).

and can we make the cut off for this one the end of April?
i want to be able to get any little edits done, layout, extra illustration, etc. done before school's out so i can sneakily use the copy machine in our teachers' lounge! free printing! and free white paper when i run out of the gray!

looking for the same stuff as last time: stories, poems, essays, comics/cartoons, whatever you got. last time was all stories and poems (beautiful ones!), but that doesn't mean other things are excluded! this time is going to have a double top ten. top ten whodunnit mysteries, and top ten worst movies recommended by my uncle abie. :]

i also have a good idea for a cover picture.

by the by, if any of you want to take a picture of yourself to put in with the contents, just send it to me via e-mail. or post it in the comments. it might be cool if you did a shot with a mask or half-hidden or something. or with something written in your forehead. you know, going with the theme...

SECOND VOTE [12 Mar 2008|01:28pm]
so these are the ones with 2 votes each:

+ apocalypse
+ mistakes
+ gender
+ identity
+ fairy/folk tales
+ what ifs
+ alter egos

can we narrow it down again from there?
